Information about the protest of Trade Union Confederations in Romania

Dear colleagues,
Several thousand trade unionists from four Trade Union Confederations in Romania participated on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, in a protest in Victoriei Square in Bucharest, against the government’s austerity measures, an action in which the “LAZĂR EDELEANU” Federation joined the demonstrators with a number of over 100 people.

These were some of the many demands of the trade unionists:

• Increase the minimum wage and pensions, so that no worker or pensioner lives below the poverty line
• Resumption of collective bargaining at all levels and conclusion of the National Collective Labor Agreement, for the real protection of workers
• Fair taxation by correcting the imbalance created by Government Emergency Ordinance no. 79/2017
• Respect for the legal and contractual rights of employees
• Stopping austerity measures applied only to the population
• Protecting jobs and investing in the economy, not layoffs
• Applying the wage law, indexing wages with inflation, granting all increases calculated according to the basic salary in payment
• Unblocking health and social assistance positions
• Continuing investments through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan and national programs
• Applying increases and indexing pensions according to law
• Eliminating overtaxation of private companies when these measures have a direct impact on workers’ incomes, jobs and the economic stability of families

With fraternal greetings,

PETRE TANCĂU
President ”LAZĂR EDELEANU” Federation
